Beartooth Mountain
Beartooth Mountain sits at 1905 meters. This horned peak sits north of Powell River as an iconic landmark visible from surrounding mountains, the Eldred Valley and Vancouver Island. Accessed from Powell Lake a trail climbs from the valley bottom into a cirque painted with a beautiful tarn lake named Shirley. Marbled Murrelets are known to nest in the area and an ungulate winter range is designated to the west on Mount Baldy.
The mountaineering community continues to frequent the area with the first acent happening in 1935 by P.R. Lockie and R. Simmonds. In the summer of 2020, several parties traveled into the well loved and sacred zone, only to find more blocks engineered in the picture above.
